2nd Grade - November - Hide the Word - Spin a Verse - 1 Timothy

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12

This is a spin-a-verse in class activity.  Before class get 2 paper plates for each child.  Cut out a wedge from one plate.  Then use a brad to fix the plates together.  Also cut out  a set of word cards for each child.  The words are speech, conduct, love, faith, purity.

In class, give each child a set of plates.  They write the whole verse on the top plate.  If time permits, they can also add various doo-dahs to the top plate.  Next, they glue one word card in the open wedge area.  Then spin the top plate to show the next opening wedge.  Glue in another word card.  Continue spinning and gluing until all the word cards are glued in.

After the word cards are glued in, let the discussion begin!  You can use this for a few different teaching approaches…  For one idea, have the kids get with a partner.  Each child “spins” to a word.  Then they tell their partner an example of how a Christian child can show that behavior.  For example, if they spin “speech” they may say that they can show an example of speech by using kind words when sometime is unkind to them.

For another approach, have the kids illustrate each behavior within the open wedge on the bottom plate.

For another approach, give each child a sheet of blank paper.  Have them fold the paper into 6ths.  Write one behavior in each box.  Then have the kids spin a behavior.  In the box that corresponds with the spun behavior, write an example of a person from the Bible who exhibits that behavior.

Happy spinning… and learning God’s Word!
